The development of obligate bipedalism was a key innovation that distinguishes hominins from other primates, and it radically transformed locomotion, diet, and tool use. Therefore, the anatomical and ontogenetic study of the pelvis is crucial in paleoanthropology, as demonstrated by the pelvises of Lucy and Ardi, where we observe evidence of bipedalism in *Australopithecus afarensis* and *Ardipithecus ramidus* , respectively. These hominins already walked upright, although they also retained climbing abilities.
