The human pelvis, unique among primates, is the cornerstone of bipedal locomotion. Our hips, rotated laterally, provide anchor points for the muscles that allow us to maintain balance as we shift our weight from one leg to the other to walk or run upright. Researchers at Harvard University discovered that evolution reshaped the human pelvis in two important steps.
