Two innovations in the pelvis gave our ancestors the ability to walk upright

The upper part of the human pelvis, known as the ilium, underwent  two key structural innovations  during evolution that made bipedalism possible, according to a  study published today in Nature . This finding offers new clues about how one of the most defining characteristics of our species originated: walking upright on two legs.
